The Presidency of the European Union expresses its concern at the decision of the Government of Sudan to request the Special representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Sudan, Mr Jan Pronk, to leave Sudan. The Presidency underlines that the forced departure of a UN Special Representative is unacceptable.
The EU emphasises the vital role of the UN in support of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the promotion of peace and stability in the whole of Sudan, and expresses its support to the efforts of the UN in Sudan and to the role of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in this regard. The EU urges the Sudanese government to lend its full cooperation to the UN.
