Europe Lecture speaker Paul Scheffer on the boundaries in society

DEN HAAG (PDC) - How many boundaries does the European Union need? Does Europe have the moral obligation to take in all refugees? Europe Lecture speaker Paul Scheffer argues in his book De Vrijheid van de Grens that some spatial demarcation is necessary to protect the open society. However, he distances himself from nationalist sentiments.

How can a society manage to survive the storm of globalisation without losing its identity? Scheffer calls upon people with liberal ideals to debate more frequently about these kind of questions. Otherwise, such a debate will be overtaken by populists and authoritarian politicians, warns the professor European Studies.

Paul Scheffer will speak at the Europe Lecture on 15 September in Sociëteit De Witte, The Hague. Sign up for the Europe Lecture now, organised in cooperation with the Montesquieu-Prinsjeslezing, via the link below!
