European Commission appoints new Head of Representation in Stockholm

Anna Katarina Areskoug has been appointed as Head of the European Commission Representation in Stockholm. She will take up office on 1 March 2015. She brings to her new role almost 25 years of experience in European and international affairs as well as proven leadership and management skills.

Between 2010 and 2014, Ms Areskoug was the Swedish Prime Minister's State Secretary for EU and Foreign Affairs. During this time she notably prepared and participated in all European Councils.

Prior to this appointment she served for three years as Head of Unit for EU and Foreign Affairs in the Prime Minister's office and for two years as Head of Unit for enlargement and Central and Eastern Europe in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

From 1999 to 2004, Ms Areskoug worked for the Swedish Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels. During the two first years she was a Counsellor coordinating the preparation of the Swedish EU Presidency in spring 2001. As a member of the Antici Group, she assisted the Swedish Ambassador in the Coreper.

She began her career in the European Commission in 1996 as an administrator, where she was dealing with relations with Poland and the Baltic states as well as with pre-accession preparations and evaluations for all candidate countries.

She holds a Master of International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management in Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Economics from the University of Lund in Sweden.

The Commission has Representations in all 28 EU Member States and Regional Offices in Barcelona, Belfast, Bonn, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Marseille, Milan, Munich and Wroclaw. They inform the media and public about EU policies and report to the Commission on significant developments in the country.
