Statement by High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini and Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides on the death of aid worker Kayla Mueller

We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Kayla Mueller. Her death is just the latest in the long and terrible series of killings perpetrated in the Syrian conflict.

Kayla was committed to help bring relief to the victims of this conflict and we commend her humanitarian spirit, her dedication and her self-sacrifice. We must redouble global efforts to put an end to the murders and suffering caused by this conflict - this would be the best way to honour her memory and the memory of the other civilian victims whose number is too great to count.

The European Union remains committed to contribute to regional and international efforts to fight Da'esh and other terrorist groups which threaten regional and global stability.
