New Head of European Commission Representation in Copenhagen

Mr Laurs Nørlund has been appointed as Head of Representation in Denmark (Copenhagen). He is taking up office today (1 July).

After beginning his career in the Danish Foreign Service, Mr Nørlund has held senior positions in the European Commission for almost 20 years.

From 1995 until 1999 he served as Head of Cabinet for the then European Commissioner for Environment and Nuclear Safety (Mrs Ritt Bjerregaard). From 1999 until 2004 he worked first as Deputy Head and then as Head of Cabinet for the then European Commissioner for Internal Market, Customs and Taxation (Mr Frits Bolkestein).

Since 2004 he has been a Director at EUROSTAT, the EU's statistical authority, where he is currently responsible for Government Finance Statistics and Statistics for the Macro-economic Imbalances Procedure. He is also the Acting Director of National Accounts and Prices.

He holds an advanced degree in Economics and Statistics, Public Law, International and EU Law, Political and Social Sciences from Aarhus University, Denmark. He also followed the 'International Directors Programme' at France's INSEAD business school.

Background

The Commission has Representations in all 28 EU Member States and Regional Offices in Barcelona, Belfast, Bonn, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Marseille, Milan, Munich and Wroc l aw. They inform the media and public about EU policies and report to the Commission on significant developments in the country.
