Message of Congratulations from President Barroso to the Prime Minister of Finland

Dear Prime Minister,

On behalf of the European Commission and myself, I would like to congratulate you warmly as you take up our new duties as Prime Minister of the Republic of Finland.

Europe is emerging form the most serious economic crisis in its history, but sustained efforts are needed to restore sustainable growth and job creation, as well as to tackle the various global challenges facing us, including maintaining competitiveness by promoting open and digital economies and reducing our energy dependency.

I am confident that Finland under your leadership will continue to contribute actively to these efforts as well as other important issues on the European agenda. With your experience as senior national minister, Member of the European Parliament and within the European Commission, you bring to the post your intensive personal knowledge of and enthusiasm for European integration, which can only further strengthen Finland's longstanding tradition of constructive influence in European matters. I look forward to renewing the excellent cooperation between the Finnish Government and the European Commission. I wish you and the new government every success.
