Europees Economisch en Sociaal Comité praat met eurocommissaris Andor over energie, industrie en werkgelegenheid (en)
The agenda of the European Economic and Social Committee's (EESC) plenary session of the 4th and 5th of May is extensive, with members set to discuss opinions relating to industrial policy, nuclear energy and employment. László Andor, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion will participate in the session, along with a French delegation from the Economic, Social and Environmental Council of France, headed by its president Jean-Paul Delevoye.

Schedule: Commissioner Andor and President Delevoye will attend the plenary session at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, respectively.
Commissioner László Andor will speak about the "Youth on the move" initiative and the "New skills for new jobs" programme in the framework of the EU2020 strategy. He will then discuss the importance of the partnership with social partners and civil society, in the context of the social market economy. The French delegation from the Economic, Social and Environmental Council will be warmly welcomed by the EESC, their presence reflecting a strong desire for cooperation between the two organisations. President Jean-Paul Delevoye will elaborate on this cooperation and encourage future relations between the two bodies.
There are a number of noteworthy opinions due for adoption in this plenary session. A timely opinion on the management of spent fuel and radioactive waste has been prepared, which contains a series of recommendations based on the Commission's proposal for a directive on this matter. Long term safety is the core consideration.
Another opinion relates to the EU's industrial policy. The opinion endorses the approach taken by the Commission and encourages the improved coordination between the EU and Member States in the industrial sector.
Furthermore, an opinion has been prepared to assess the impact of the economic and financial crisis on the workforce. This opinion pays special attention to supporting the status of small and medium enterprises (SME's), enabling them to contribute to the creation of new jobs.
