EU bespreekt relaties met Marokkaans maatschappelijk middenveld en Mediterrane Unie (en)

In the light of recent efforts to reinforce the role of civil society organisations and cooperation initiatives in Europe and the Mediterranean, the EESC will debate this topic at its 460 th plenary session on 17/18 February.

After introductory remarks by EESC President Mario Sepi, several ESC presidents from Euromed countries visiting the EESC will contribute their views and suggestions for incorporating civil society in the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). The debate will witness interventions by External Relations section president, Filip Hamro-Drotz and An Le Nouail Marlière, Euromed Follow-Up Committee President. The Session agenda will also include specific opinions on this topic, such as agriculture in Euromed and EU-Moroccan relations.

The Session agenda will also include a number of other major opinions:

-Rapporteur José María Zufiaur Narvaiza (Group II, Employees, Spain) will address the socio-economic aspects of EU-Latin America relations.

-Rapporteur Frank Allen (Group III, Various Interests, Ireland) will outline a long term strategy for maintaining a sustainable EU dairy industry.

-Luis Miguel Pariza (Group II, Employees, Spain) will explore the role of social policy in integrating immigrants into civil society.

Another opinion on the agenda sets out arrangements for information storing and sharing in order to effectively combat VAT fraud. Rapporteur Umberto Burani (Group I, Employers, Italy) will introduce this opinion on the first day of the session.
