Prioriteiten Portguese voorzitterschap op gebied van Binnenlandse Zaken en Justitie (en)

The Minister for Internal Administration, Rui Pereira, and the Minister of Justice, Alberto Costa, announced today, at 15:00, the priorities of the Portuguese Presidency in the area of Justice and Internal Affairs before the Committee of Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament, in Brussels.

One of the priorities of the Portuguese Presidency is the accomplishment of the Portuguese proposal SISone4ALL, which consists in the free movement of persons within Europe, thus assuring access by the new Member States to the Schengen Information System, with the purpose of abolishing the internal borders of the European Union, between December 2007 and March 2008.

The implementation of the Global Approach to Migration with regard to Africa and the Mediterranean, through partnerships between the EU and the African and Mediterranean countries of origin and transit of migratory flows, is another priority of the Portuguese Presidency. Migration must be seen from a global and balanced point of view, including the promotion of legal immigration channels, particularly regarding circular migration, development aid, readmission and fight against illegal immigration and human trafficking in human beings.
