Cultureel evenement in Berlijn in kader van voorzitterschap: Europa- de blauwe ster

A cultural event in the context of the German EU Council Presidency

On 17 June 2007, under the motto "Europe - the blue star", the Federal Foreign Office and the young.euro.classic music festival will present an extravaganza of European music, literature and art at the Konzerthaus in Berlin, with special guest Montserrat Caballé.

As the second European Council of the German EU Presidency approaches, the Berlin Konzerthaus on the Gendarmenmarkt will provide the backdrop for music, pictures and words from Europe. "Europe - the blue star" is one of a whole series of cultural events organized by the Federal Foreign Office at home and abroad during the German EU Presidency.

Over the past few months, music, dance, film, theatre and exhibitions have been used to spotlight and breathe life into European issues across the continent. At the beginning of June, Federal Foreign Minister Steinmeier and the Akademie der Künste (Academy of the Arts) invited prominent writers and intellectuals from various corners of the globe to share their thoughts and provide input for discussion of Europe's role in the world at the high-level conference "Perspektive Europa" (Perspectives on Europe). Other memorable cultural events in Germany included the Celebration of Europe's Beauty, the European Club Night and the launch of the European literary network Halma. Current cultural policy issues, such as the role of cultural and creative industries, cultural diversity and cultural heritage were discussed in numerous conferences.

This coming Sunday, from 3 p.m., various concerts, readings and performances featuring virtuoso soprano Montserrat Caballé, pianist Moritz Eggert, actors Ulrich Matthes and Dietrich Mattausch, the Young Sound Forum of Central Europe and many others will offer the public a taste of Europe's cultures and traditions.
