Nieuwe lidstaten bekrachtigen EU-douaneovereenkomst met San Marino (en)

The signature of a Protocol on the participation of the European Union's ten new Member States in its Agreement on Co-operation and Customs Union with the Republic of San Marino took place today in Brussels.

The Protocol was signed by Mr. Fabio Berardi , San Marino's Secretary of State for Foreign and Political Affairs and Mme Martine Schommer , Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the EU.

The Agreement on Co-operation and Customs Union entered into force on 1 April 2002. Although the new Member States of the European Union have been applying it provisionally since their accession to the EU on 1 May 2004, the Agreement's amendment was required so as to allow them to participate as contracting parties.
