Former president of Latvia speaks at the 13th Europe Lecture
DEN HAAG (PDC) - The Europe Lecture Foundation is pleased to announce that former president of Latvia Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga is coming to The Hague on October 28th to speak at the Europe Lecture 2014.
During the 13th edition of the Europe Lecture, Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga will express her view on 'Europe in the World: Peace and Security'. She will discuss the role of the European Union on the international stage regarding matters of peace and security.
As president of the Republic of Latvia from 1999 to 2007, Vīķe-Freiberga played a key role in the achievement of Latvian membership of both NATO and the EU, which the country joined in 2004. During her presidency, she also served as a Member of the Council of Women World Leaders and was appointed Special Envoy to the Secretary General on United Nations reform.
After the end of her presidency, Vīķe-Freiberga stayed active in international politics. She is currently involved in a number of initiatives designed to promote international stability and democratic development worldwide.
Considering her expertise and active involvement in the field of global political affairs, Vīķe-Freiberga is in an excellent position to offer an insightful perspective on the topic of the Europe Lecture 2014.
