ECA Member Kersti Kaljulaid elected President of Estonia
The European Court of Auditors (ECA) congratulates its Member Kersti Kaljulaid on her election as President of the Republic of Estonia.
The election took place on Monday 3 October 2016 in the Estonian Parliament.
Ms Kaljulaid - who was released from her duties as ECA Member during the electoral process, her tasks being reassigned internally - joined the ECA on 7 May 2004 and was re-appointed in 2010 for a second term. Most recently, she was a Member of the chamber responsible for audits in the area of the sustainable use of natural resource. Previously she also held a number of other posts, including those of Chair of the ECA’s Administrative Committee and Member responsible for the statement of assurance.
The Council of the EU will shortly take a decision regarding the cessation of Ms Kaljulaid’s term of office as ECA Member. She is expected to be inaugurated as Estonia's President on 10 October 2016, when she will start a five-year term of office.
