Preparation of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council, 19th May 2014

The Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting of May 2014 will take place in Brussels on 19th May 2014. The Commission will be represented by Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dacian Cioloş, the Commissioner for Health, Tonio Borg. A press conference will be held in the afternoon at the end of the discussions. The public debates and the press conference can be followed by video streaming: http://video.consilium.europa.eu.

European fund for minor uses in the field of

plant protection products

Commission will present the Commission Report on the establishment of a European fund for minor uses in the field of plant protection products. Minor uses of pesticides are uses on niche crops, i.e. crops that are grown on a relatively limited acreage (including most vegetables, fruit, nurseries and flowers). While minor uses are of high economic value for farmers, they are however usually of low economic interest for the agro-pesticide industry. The aim of the report on minor uses therefore was to provide information regarding the situation on minor uses as reported by Member States and stakeholder organisations; present the strategy offered in Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 as regards minor uses; and also present the options for action considered in the preliminary study funded by the Commission.
